Neighbors of a Detroit strip club are celebrating a new law banning adult businesses from using photos of scantily clad women on billboards.

State Sen. Tupac Hunter, D-Detroit, and neighbors of The Penthouse Club in northwest Detroit are heralding the law, which took effect Wednesday, the conclusion of a three-year battle over a two-story banner on the club featuring a woman in a short red dress, The Detroit News reported Friday.

The law bans the use of scantily clad women in billboards and other public advertising for adult businesses. It limits such signs to words, numbers and logos.

"It's an eyesore," said Mary Little, 86, who lives near the club. "It gives us a bad reputation. People look at our neighborhood like we are Las Vegas."

However, Timothy Murphy, a lawyer for The Penthouse Club, said he was unaware of the law and no one had yet tried to enforce it by telling the club to take down the banner.
