Stolen car recovered with a lot of extras

UPI News Service, 12/09/2005

A Wisconsin man who lost his old Chevy Caprice to a car thief got it back with a lot of extras, including new tires and a new stereo.

When Terry Dresdow bought the 1989 Caprice Classic for $1,200, he thought he was getting a modest but reliable ride to work. It was only later, after an attempted theft, that he found out the car is a favorite for makeovers on the MTV show "Pimp My Ride."

When it was stolen in October, the car got pimped with keyless entry, fancy rims, a paint job and eight new speakers. Dresdow is afraid to drive it.

"I'm just a target with it now," he told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

On the upside, a man who passed him in traffic offered him $5,000 for the car. So he plans to sell it, buy another old heap and use the balance to make a mortgage payment.

"Actually, Mr. Dresdow kind of made out on the deal," said John Davis, the sheriff's officer who recovered the car and arrested the man suspected of stealing it. "He got a car back that's probably worth three times what it was when it was stolen."
