Steven Tyler's 'American Idol' judge addition confirmed by bandmate

UPI News Service, 08/19/2010

Steven Tyler's "American Idol" judge addition has been confirmed by Aerosmith bandmate Tom Hamilton, the Boston Globe said.

"The ink is dry on that,'' Hamilton told The (Newark. N.J.) Star-Ledger. "Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be. ... I hope it doesn't hurt the new momentum we've built up on this tour, because that's been so important for us as a band."

The Globe said neither Fox, which airs the show, nor Tyler would comment on Hamilton's remarks.

The 40-year-old rock band's guitarist and co-founder, Joe Perry, recently expressed his displeasure regarding rumors Tyler is headed to "Idol."

"I found out on the Internet like the rest of the world," Perry told the Boston Herald earlier this month.

"There was an Aerosmith after party at Studio 54 after the Vegas show -- which none of us in the band knew anything about -- and (Tyler) said some stuff there. I mean, this is no small thing. ... I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn't tell me about this. ... Why so secretive? We're told it's a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We'd like to plan our lives, ya know?"

Although there are two openings on the judges' panel for the next "Idol" season, the singing competition show's producers have not announced any replacements.
