Hakan Emvall, owner of a gas station in Vaxjo, said he spotted the same two men filling up their cars and leaving without paying three times in a single week and became so frustrated with the lack of action from police that he posted photos of the men on the door to his business, The Local reported Friday.
However, Vaxjo police detective chief inspector Stefan Karlsson said officers ordered the pictures to be taken down and are investigating whether criminal charges should be filed against Emvall.
"We have visited the station and the photographs have been taken down," Karlsson said.
The pictures were labeled "hit-and-run petrol thieves."
"I'll have to take the hit if it comes. We can not be robbed of petrol worth up to 30,000 kronor ($4,300) without doing something about it," Emvall said.
