John Dykstra, who won an Oscar for visual effects on "Spider-Man 2," will pass up "Spider-Man 3" for another project, The Hollywood Reporter said Monday.

Dykstra will instead work with director McG on Columbia Pictures' "Hot Wheels." He told The Reporter he would miss the "Spider-Man" crew, but "Hot Wheels" was a great opportunity.
"I'm an adrenaline junkie; it's an avocation," he said. "And what's cool about 'Hot Wheels' is it allows us to explore the language of cars -- from NASA Formula One, to tuners, hot rods, classics, dinosaur cars, monster trucks and so on."
Sony Imageworks' Scott Stokdyk -- who was also on the Oscar-winning "Spider-Man 2" visual effects team -- will take the lead on visual effects for "Spider-Man 3."
Dykstra previously won an Oscar as part of the visual effects team for "Star Wars" in 1977. He also received a scientific-technical award that year for developing "a facility uniquely oriented toward visual effects photography."
