A Spanish court has awarded a woman more than $150,000 in a divorce settlement for doing all the housework during the marriage, officials said.
The Spanish Supreme Court granted Maria Piedad the right to compensation for childcare and housework after she and her husband ended their 15-year marriage, La Vanguardia reported Wednesday.
Judge Encarnacion Roca said domestic chores counted as a contribution to the marriage. Roca took the monthly rate for a housekeeper to calculate Piedad's final share of the marital assets in the amount of $153,000.
Piedad, who has never worked outside the home, brought up the couple's daughter and carried out all the household chores. She was awarded $850 a month.
