The Spanish Supreme Court granted Maria Piedad the right to compensation for childcare and housework after she and her husband ended their 15-year marriage, La Vanguardia reported Wednesday.
Judge Encarnacion Roca said domestic chores counted as a contribution to the marriage. Roca took the monthly rate for a housekeeper to calculate Piedad's final share of the marital assets in the amount of $153,000.
Piedad, who has never worked outside the home, brought up the couple's daughter and carried out all the household chores. She was awarded $850 a month.
