UPI News Service, 11/30/2004

Soul legend Al Green has reportedly taken former producer David Gest into court for using his name to promote a December concert.

Green was "furious" when he learned his name was being used to promote "David Gest's All-Star Holiday Extravaganza," World Entertainment News Network reported.

Green has filed a request for a cease-and-desist order, although promotions for the Memphis extravaganza still list him as a headliner.

"Al never agreed to do this," J.R. Rich, head of publicity at Blue Note Records, told the network. "The point is that Al lives in Memphis. He doesn't want people to think he agreed to do this and then just didn't turn up."

The network said advertisements also promise appearances by the The Doobie Brothers, Lou Rawls, Crystal Gayle and others, including Topol recreating "Fiddler on the Roof."
