A gala Friday night wedding was set up for a soldier about to go to war and his fiance, thanks to a song and a generous listener.
Melissa Hazelton, an account executive for I Do magazine, was listening to the radio when she heard a request from Maureen Bilyeu for the SHeDAISY song,"Come Home Soon." It was dedicated to Steven Armstrong, scheduled to be deployed with his National Guard unit to Iraq next week.
Hazleton felt compelled to reach out, the Nashville Tennessean said.
Within hours Thursday, she arranged for a cake, flowers, tuxedoes, bridal party dresses, wedding bands, couture shoes, banquet rooms and linen, plus a honeymoon suite -- all donated to the blissful couple.
The bride walked down the aisle in a $5,000 strapless Vera Wang wedding dress and a Toni Federici headpiece and veil on loan from the B. Hughes bridal boutique.
Hazelton's reason for doing it all was simple. "I just love love," she said.
