Ultra-tight jeans, previously popular when Ronald Reagan was president, have made a comeback.

The Los Angeles Times reports boutiques in the city are carrying versions that can cost as much as $400. The newspaper said the jeans' return to fashion is attributable to the popularity of ankle boots -- anyone who has spent $300 for a pair wants to show them off -- and the wave of super-thin stars and models like Nicole Kidman, Kate Moss and Keira Knightly who wear super-thin jeans.
Like many fashion trends, skinny jeans are also moving down the retail ladder, with Wal-Mart planning to sell them this summer for an everyday low price.
Skintight jeans have also caught on with men. The Times says some men were buying women's jeans until men's clothing manufacturers catch up with the trend.
