A single vote made the difference in a Texas school board race for a seat with only one district resident eligible to vote.
The Early Voting Ballot Board rejected a sealed provisional ballot Wednesday from a resident living outside the single member district, giving the Lytle Independent School District board seat to Christina Mercado, who received the only vote in the race against Patty Cortez, the San Antonio Express-News reported Thursday.
Mercado and Cortez were both ineligible to vote as they live outside the district for the seat being vacated by Dan Booth.
The caster of the single legitimate ballot, known only as "The Voter," is being kept confidential by the school board.
