Los Angeles police are investigating recording artist Chris Brown for alleged domestic violence felony battery, officials said.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ police received a 911 call and arrived to find a woman they have declined to identify, who claimed Brown, 19, assaulted her during an argument in a car early Sunday morning. The woman reportedly had visible injuries when police arrived on the scene, by which time Brown had allegedly already left.

"The identity of the victim will not be released," Los Angeles Police Department Officer April Harding told People magazine. "Any victim who's involved in a domestic violence incident is entitled to confidentiality. ... If police locate Brown, yes, he's subject to arrest."

Recording Academy officials Sunday announced that Brown's 20-year-old girlfriend, singer Rihanna, would not be performing as scheduled Sunday night at the Grammy Awards.

TMZ said when it contacted Rihanna's representatives for a statement regarding the incident involving Brown, Rihanna's publicist said: "Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support."

Rihanna and Brown were nominated this year for the Grammy for best pop collaboration with vocals. Rihanna was nominated for "If I Never See Your Face Again," which she recorded with Maroon 5, while Brown earned his nod for "No Air," a song he performed with Jordin Sparks.

Rihanna was also up for best dance recording for "Disturbia." The Grammy in that category went to Daft Punk for "Harder Better Faster Stronger."
