'Simpsons' producer Sam Simon rescues injured race horse

UPI News Service, 05/03/2014

Simpsons producer Sam Simon has terminal cancer, but before he dies, he's spending his fortune to help others, including an injured horse being forced to race again.

Simon paid for the rescue of Valediction, a race horse who had injured its leg and was being prepared to return to the track in February.

In cooperation with the People for the Ethnical Treatment of Animals, Simon bought the horse for $60,000 to keep it from racing again.

PETA had obtained secret footage of Valediction's trainers talking about injecting horses with medication in order to get sore animals past track veterinarians to race. The trainer also called Valediction a "rat," a horse that doesn't make any money.

"When you watch them talk about Valediction as a rat and now you know he's a in a pasture someplace, it makes you feel good," Simon said.
