Shuttered church takes Andrew Lloyd Weber's advice, reopens doors to art lovers

UPI News Service, 01/04/2005

A shuttered church in England heeded the call of composer Andrew Lloyd Weber and reopened its doors to the public to share the Victorian-era art inside.

Webber, founder of the Open Churches Trust to help historic churches remain open, convinced officials at All Saints Church to reopen the building that had been closed since the congregation at Wilden merged with St. Michael's in Stourport, the Telegraph reported.

Hundreds of people flocked to the church recently to see 14 stained glass windows designed by pre-Raphaelite master Edward Burne-Jones. Other treasures at All Saints include an altar designed by William Morris, altar hangings used at George VI's coronation and communion cups inlaid with Louisa Baldwin's gems, the newspaper said.

Feb. 5 is the next time All Saints will be open to the public.
