Country music superstar Shania Twain Friday became an officer of the Order of Canada, the country's highest civilian honor.

The Timmins, Ontario, native received the award during an Ottawa ceremony recognizing 42 other Canadians such as Olympic medalist Catriona Le May Doan, chocolatier David Ganong, choreographer James Kudelka and abstract artist Rita Letendre, the Globe and Mail reported.
Twain now lives in Switzerland, but said "Timmins is my home," the newspaper said.
She was cited by the government for remaining "true to her (Canadian) roots," her work to eliminate child hunger and for being a role model and inspiration to "countless other emerging musicians."
