The Sci Fi Channel plans to develop a project inspired by the life and work of writer Shirley Jackson, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

Sci Fi programming executive Mark Stern described the series, which will have Michael Douglas as executive producer, as "'Desperate Housewives' meets 'The Twilight Zone.'"
The Reporter said plans call for the project to blend the late author's life story with supernatural themes from her stories -- including "The Lottery" and "The Haunting of Hill House."
Alan Brennert ("Stargate Atlantis") will write the script.
The Sci Fi Channel also announced plans for several other new original projects -- including "Heroes Anonymous," a live-action drama based on the comic book series by Scott Gimpel and Bill Morrison, about young superheroes who form a support group.
