Celia Mullen, 46, of Northallerton, England, said she pulled her son out of the Church of England-run Ainderby Steeple primary school after he was traumatized during a classroom visit by members of the evangelical New Life Baptist church, The Sunday Mirror reported Tuesday.
Mullen said the children were made to write "sorry" on pieces of paper and then eat the paper to apologize to God for their sins.
"I was horrified. What wicked sins has a 7-year-old child committed that they have the need to say sorry to God?" Mullen said.
Mullen said she spoke to Fiona Sharp, head teacher of the school and a New Life church member, and was told the paper-eating exercise is "what we do."
The school's board of governors said the incident is being investigated.
