Ryan Reynolds, Viola Davis and Ed Sheeran highlight Time's 100 list

UPI News Service, 04/20/2017

Ryan Reynolds, Viola Davis and Ed Sheeran are just three of the many celebrities featured in Time magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people.

The listing offers a look into the biggest movers and shakers in the world from presidents, prime ministers, CEOs, musicians and movie stars along with passages written by their peers and Time 100 alumni as to why they are deserving of the recognition.

"Ryan Reynolds has the same loose-limbed charm as Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart. He's the Everyman, but somehow with more of everything: wit, elegance, looks and general hunkiness," Helen Mirren wrote of the "Deadpool" star.

"Viola has carved a place for herself on the Mount Rushmore of the 21st century," shared Meryl Streep about the actress who, she said, "embodies for all women, but especially for women of color, the high-wire rewards of hard work and a dream, risk and faith."

"Whether by choice or an unconscious evolution, when he decided on his musical ambitions, Ed became less of a boy and more of a tank," Taylor Swift noted about Sheeran.

"He is protected by an impenetrable and ever-present armor of enthusiasm that has helped him endure any setback, letdown or underestimation. His reaction to any idea that fails is to almost immediately come up with a new one. He's like a fighter who pops back up on his feet before you even noticed he'd been knocked down."

The list, which is separated into sections, features Chance the Rapper, filmmaker and comedian Jordan Peele and political commentator and late night host Samantha Bee listed under pioneers.

Under artists lies Reynolds, Sheeran, singer Alicia Keys, director Ava DuVernay, director Barry Jenkins, theater actor Ben Platt, pop star Demi Lovato, actress Emma Stone, late night host James Corden, musician John Legend, SNL star Leslie Jones, actress Margot Robbie and television star Sarah Paulson.

While icons include Davis, model Ashley Graham and television personality RuPaul.
