Izhevsk officials announced Wednesday the Buranovskie Babushki, eight grandmothers who formed a folk-pop group and took the No. 2 spot at the Eurovision Song Contest May 26 of last year, will be honored with a monument in the city, RIA Novosti reported.

The monument project is being overseen by a commission of bureaucrats, architects, sculptors, scientists and artists, officials said.

Udmurtia Republic President Alexander Volkov issued a decree in July declaring May 26 as the region's Day of the Grandmother in honor of the women's accomplishment.
