Robbery foiled by scolding

UPI News Service, 06/14/2007

An armed hold-up of a Wisconsin gas station was foiled by a customer who walked in on it and reprimanded the would-be thief for his language and behavior.

In court documents released on Wednesday, police said Jesse Vogt, 26, was arrested after fleeing the gas station empty-handed on Sunday in Waukesha, Wis. He was apprehended with the help of a canine unit and is charged with attempted armed robbery with the threat of force, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Police reports say the thief handed a note to the clerk saying he was armed and would shoot if he didn't hand over all the money.

When the clerk said he couldn't read English, the thief began yelling obscenities as another unidentified customer walked in, the report said.

The customer told the robber he couldn't talk to the clerk that way and demanded to know why he had to stage a hold-up in the first place, police said.

That's when the would-be thief bolted and police were called, the newspaper said.
