Film and television star Rob Lowe is to join the cast of the U.S. sitcom "Parks and Recreation" next month, NBC said.

Lowe has starred in the films "The Outsiders," "St. Elmo's Fire," "About Last Night," "Wayne's World" and "The Invention of Lying," as well the TV shows "The West Wing" and "Brothers and Sisters."
Lowe and Adam Scott, star of "Party Down," are to debut on the show in the episode to air May 13, NBC said.
The pair will play state auditors on the series, which is set in a small-town Indiana parks department.
The sitcom stars Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Rashida Jones, Paul Schneider, Aziz Ansari and Nick Offerman.
