Police and the media played a hand in reuniting a Pennsylvania man with the engagement ring he lost in an airport.

A news story about the ring and an accompanying set of wedding bands resulted in the owner contacting the Erie (Pa.) International Airport from Venice, Italy where had originally planned to pop the question while on vacation with his girlfriend.
The Erie Times News said Thursday that the newspaper had run a story about the rings after police were unable to nail down the identity of the owner who had lost them last week. The story was picked up and televised nationwide.
Mark Peterson of Erie called the airport Wednesday after apparently seeing the Times News article on-line. He had concluded that the rings had been stolen during the trip.
Airport police had doggedly traced the rings to Gordon's Jewelers; however Peterson had actually bought them at another store and put them in a Gordon's box.
