Report: 'Star Trek XI' may beam up William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy
UPI News Service, 08/31/2006
The newest offering in the Hollywood film franchise of "Star Trek" could again see William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy on board the starship Enterprise.
TrekWeb.com reported that with Shatner having expressed interest in revisiting the role that made him famous, Nimoy has been contacted regarding a limited role in the director J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Trek XI."
"The head of production at Paramount called my agency to tell them about this project and they are aware of Bill (Shatner)'s and my contribution to the franchise," said Nimoy "and they'd like us to know they might want some involvement. It was all very, very general."
Rumored to be based around younger versions of the actors' notable characters from the original TV series, "Star Trek XI" has been slated for a 2008 release.
Shatner and Nimoy are scheduled to again embrace the series that made them famous by making special 40th anniversary appearances this weekend at Toronto's Fan Expo Canada 2006, the Web site said.
