The 32-year-old Beckham is relocating to the United States to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer. Before signing a lucrative five-year, $250 million deal with the Galaxy in January, he played for England's Manchester United and Spain's Real Madrid.
Beckham was recalled to England to play for the national team in a game against Brazil.
The London Evening Standard has suggested that officials are challenging a possible knighthood for Beckham because of his big contract in the United States. The report suggested officials were reluctant to allow Beckham's wife, Victoria, to become Lady Beckham.
She is a former member of the popular music group Spice Girls.
