If the show had been brought back for another season it would have surpassed "Gunsmoke" as the longest-running TV drama series in history. Right now, the two shows are tied for that distinction.
E! said NBC did not return a call seeking comment on its story regarding the cancellation of "Law & Order" after its current 20th season.
The show now stars Jeremy Sisto, Anthony Anderson, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, Alana de la Garza and Sam Waterston.
