Report: Meredith Vieira seen as NBC's top 'Today' replacement choice
UPI News Service, 02/06/2006
"The View's" Meredith Vieira is reported to be NBC's top choice to replace Katie Couric if she leaves the "Today" show for CBS News, it was reported Monday.
There is a 70 percent chance Couric will jump networks when her contract ends, sources told TMZ.com and if that happens, Vieira would mostly likely be offered her morning show seat.
Kelly Ripa was also considered by the Peacock Network but was unavailable, TMZ.com reported.
Vieira currently makes more than $5 million for co-hosting "The View" and her job as host of "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire," the sources said.
She left her job as a correspondent at CBS' "60 Minutes" to spend more time with her three children and husband.
