Mark Ruffalo may join Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr. in a movie about the San Francisco serial killer known as the Zodiac Killer.

Phoenix Pictures is producing the film, which is based on the true story of a killer that terrorized the city 25 years ago, the Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.
Gyllenhaal and Downey will play newspaper reporters and Ruffalo, if he is given the role, will play a detective.
Paramount will handle U.S. distribution of the film.
