Jon & Kate Plus 8 stars Jon and Kate Gosselin's big "life-changing" announcement will be apparently exactly what most viewers suspected it would be: a divorce announcement.

Documents to initiate a legal split were filed at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown, PA on Monday afternoon, according to People magazine.

Last week, TLC announced that Jon and Kate will be revealing some "life-changing decisions" about their on-going relationship problems during a special one-hour Jon & Kate Plus 8 broadcast that will air at 9PM ET/PT tonight.

"Recently we've made some life-changing decisions.  Decisions that will affect every member of our family.  Ones that we hope will bring each of us some peace," Kate said during the voiceover of a 30-second version of new promotional commercials the network began running Wednesday night.

"Jon & Kate have an announcement." the network stated in on-screen text as Kate's voiceover and background music aired over video footage which showed Jon and Kate maintaining their distance during recent family activities.

"Monday, a one-hour Jon & Kate Plus 8 special. A family in turmoil.  A relationship at a crossroads.  Where do they go from here?" TLC stated in additional text that slowly flashed on-screen and faded throughout the 30-second commercial.

Jon was subsequently spotted checking out an apartment at Trump Place in New York City on Thursday.  He returned to the couple's home in Wernersville, PA on Friday, however Kate had already left the house early Friday morning and has yet to return, according to Jon.

"I've been by myself for four days," Jon told a RadarOnline.com paparazzi reporter as he exited a supermarket and loaded groceries into the family's oversized van around noon on Monday.

Similar to his impromptu press conference and autograph signing outside his family's home on Sunday, Jon also said he doesn't know when Kate will be returning home.

"I have no idea," Jon said before answering "no" and "nope" to additional questions about whether he knows where Kate is or whom she is with.

The filing also comes one week after the couple -- who renewed their wedding vows in a Hawaiian ceremony that aired on their reality show last year -- were spotted spending their tenth wedding anniversary weekend apart, with Kate spending the weekend with their eight children at the family's Wernersville, PA home while Jon visited friends and shopped in New York.

Allegations of infidelity have hounded Jon since April, when an alleged relationship with 23-year-old school teacher Deanna Hummel became public in an Us Weekly cover story report in which the pair were photographed leaving a Pennsylvania club alone at 2AM.

The allegations involving Jon and Hummel resurfaced the next week when Us published a follow-up cover story report in which Deanna's brother Jason Hummel told the magazine its earlier report was correct and he could confirm the pair have been having an affair for the past few months.

Jon and Deanna have both denied they are romantically involved.
