Report: Future looks bleak for O.J. Simpson's 'If I Did It' book

UPI News Service, 11/22/2006

The controversial novel, "If I Did It," by sports personality O.J. Simpson may never find itself a U.S. publisher, the Los Angeles Times reported.

After News Corp. called off the book's publication and the airing of a related TV special, the Times said, the book could end up getting limited distribution on the Internet.

California publisher Michael Viner told the newspaper Simpson's book, which was to be released by ReganBooks, is not likely to find another traditional publisher.

"In my mind it'll end up on the Internet somewhere," he said. "It won't be marketed through anybody major, but (by) the same people who do the (Paris) Hilton sex tape. It will be something you can download."

The Times said that, before News Corp. canceled the book and the TV special, the topic had become a heated issue among News Corp. executives.
