The 47-year-old front man for the band Poison and contestant on NBC's "The Celebrity Apprentice" underwent an emergency appendectomy April 12 and was rushed to a hospital late Thursday and diagnosed Friday with a massive hemorrhage near the stem of his brain, several news outlets reported.

His publicist contacted People.com Saturday and said: "There are several incorrect reports on Bret's condition. Bret remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location. Further tests are being ran and information will be updated in the coming days."

The statement may have been in response to an article on the entertainment Web site TMZ.com that described Michaels as "awake, in good spirits and talking."

Donald Trump, who serves as the boss on "The Celebrity Apprentice," put out a statement saying he was "deeply saddened" by the turn of events.

"He's a great competitor and champion and I hope he will be fine," Trump's statement said.

People.com said Michaels, a diabetic, wrote on his Fancast blog this week that his appendectomy was "a wake-up call to be a little bit more diligent on keeping control of my health."
