Golden Globe nominee Reese Witherspoon is producing and starring in the thriller, "Our Family Troubles," for Universal Pictures.

Witherspoon will play a first-time mother who is driven to the brink of insanity by unexplained phenomena, Daily Variety reported Friday. She returns home to Tennesse and becomes convinced an evil spirit is intent on hurting her son.

Witherspoon's production company with Jennifer Simpson, Type A, has already produced "Legally Blonde 2" and is currently working on two other productions, "Penelope" and "The Reckoning."

Witherspoon has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line."
