Hip-hop diva Foxy Brown is "pretty much totally deaf" her attorney said following her New York court hearing on a misdemeanor assault charge.

Brown's hearing has deteriorated to where she and attorney Joseph Tacopina exchanged notes to communicate during the Monday hearing, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Brown has already undergone several operations in an effort to fix her severe sudden sensorineural hearing loss, possibly caused by a virus, and she has to undergo more surgery soon, her attorney said.

Tacopina also said Brown, 26, was anxious to settle the criminal suit brought against her for allegedly battering two manicurists in a 2004 bill dispute.

Tacopina said the singer doesn't want to admit guilt to something she didn't do, but she needs to focus on her health, family and career.

Her next court date is Dec. 23.
