Singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has become a father for the first time with the birth of a daughter in Atlanta, a representative of the R&B artist said.

Ne-Yo's girlfriend, Monyetta Shaw, was due to have the baby in January, but she went into early labor Friday night and gave birth to Madilyn Grace Smith, People magazine reported.

"I've been in love before but this feels like nothing I've ever felt," said Ne-Yo, 28. "Like I'm in love for the first time."

The musician was at a charity event for his foundation when he learned Shaw had gone into labor and was able to reach the Atlanta hospital in time to witness the birth, the report said.

Ne-Yo's new album, "Libra Scale," is due in stores Nov. 22.
