CBS News reported Friday that Vandross died at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, N.J. The cause of death was not immediately announced.

Vandross -- who suffered the stroke in April 2003 -- won four Grammys in 2004 for his final album, "Dance with My Father." Also in 2004, he won more NAACP Image Awards than any other recipient when he was honored as best male artist, best music video, best song and best album.

Vandross also won Grammys for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for the track "Your Secret Love" (1996), the album "Power of Love" (1991) and the single "Here and Now" (1990).
