Queen Elizabeth 2 ocean liner leaves Florida on her final voyage

Queen Elizabeth 2, that majestic queen of the sea -- simply QE2 to most -- has ventured out to sea from port in Florida on her last voyage.
More than 100 spectators gathered late Thursday at the southern tip of Fort Lauderdale on the beach, in other boats, on the causeway and on balconies, with well-wishers waving British and American flags, blasting horns, and tugs shooting arcs of blue and red water.
All were on hand for the end of an era.
As in each of the past 36 years, the giant, regal ocean liner glided from Port Everglades and headed out to sea, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel said.
In November, that final cruise that all began long ago with the 1969 maiden voyage will take QE2 to Dubai where it will become a floating hotel.
