A court in Flintshire, Wales, found a pensioner guilty of harassment for incessantly watching and filming his neighbors.

Flintshire Magistrates Court Thursday handed down a suspended four-month prison sentence for John Hughes, 65. The judge also ordered Hughes to stay indoors between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. and pay court costs, The Flintshire Chronicle reported.

"You have made their lives a misery," Judge Allan Bissell said.

Hughes spied on neighbors Jonathan and Ruth Hughes and their children through holes he fabricated in a boundary fence into which he trained a CCTV camera, testimony revealed this week.

The newspaper did not mention if the neighbors, bearing the same last name, were any relation.

Prosecutor Matthew Ellis told the court the defendant would repeatedly mow the same patch of lawn so he could watch his neighbors, rev motorcycle and car engines late at night and shine their headlights into home windows.

Hughes had denied the charges upon his arrest, claiming he was the victim of a malicious campaign, the Chronicle said.
