President Bush bio tops Google search for 'failure'

UPI News Service, 10/18/2005

Internet mischief swept the globe Tuesday when the Google search engine showed the biography of U.S. President Bush as top result for the word "failure."

Using complex algorithms, the Google software seeks out the most popular and most-frequently visited sites associated with the search word or phrase.

But somehow, Bush's official White House biography topped the list when an "I'm Feeling Lucky" search was requested.

On a straight "failure" search, liberal filmmaker Michael Moore's Web site followed Bush's link.

The international, Silicon Valley, Calif.,-based Google software giant provides links to Web sites millions of times an hour around the world, and toys with its corporate screen logo to mark special days, including replacing its double-o with the glasses of the late singer Ray Charles on his birthday.
