The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said Robert John Rutherford, 24, took parts from 35 commercial air conditioning units during the month of August at locations including Sav-A-Lot, Family Fitness, Long Dental Lab, Salon Essentials and the Bealls Outlet, the St. Petersburg Times reported Friday.
Deputies said Rutherford sold the metal as scrap.
Rutherford, who authorities said may have had accomplices, was arrested Oct. 1 and has been charged with 24 counts of grand theft, attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools. He was jailed in lieu of $164,163 bond.
