Investigators said Dale Ohler Jr., 25, suspected of stealing more than $10,000 in tools from the Arctic Slope Regional Corp. Energy Services building after he was laid off from the business, had climbed into a hole in his ceiling to evade police, the Anchorage Daily News reported Thursday.
Police said they had to bring in a ladder to arrest Ohler after the drywall under his feet collapsed.
Ohler and his roommate, John Novosad III, 25, were arrested and charged with burglary and theft.
Police spokeswoman Marlene Lammers said officers investigating the break-in had discovered that Ohler was wanted for escape from a previous case.
"That's kind of what raised the red flag for the officers," she said.
