Port Orange Police Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz said Tony Max Olea, 42, of Edgewater handed a teller a note Tuesday morning at the Colonial Bank in Port Orange that implied he had a gun and was demanding money, the Daytona Beach (Fla.) News-Journal reported Wednesday.

Olea, who told the teller he was "desperate," left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and a dye pack hidden inside the money exploded shortly after he exited the building, Surmaczewicz said.

He said the suspect called 911 from a gas station about 10:50 a.m., just 20 minutes after the robbery, and said he wanted to turn himself in for the crime.

Olea was arrested and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
