The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Tiffany Simpson-Nijera, 25, of Clewiston, Fla., reported her purse was stolen last week. She later received a text message demanding $100 for the bag's return, The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Friday.
Simpson-Nijera said the man called her the following day and said the price had increased to $200 and she would have to give him her prescription medication.
The sheriff's office said deputies set up a perimeter and arrested Michael Rawls when the purse was returned to the victim.
Rawls was charged with dealing in stolen property and unlawful use of two-way communications. He was released after posting $5,010 bond.
