Police in Florida said they arrested a man who collected $1,200 from a client while pretending to be a lawyer.

Authorities said Michael Brown, 60, of North Lauderdale, hired Clifford Fleetwood, 50, to be his lawyer and paid him $1,200 over a two-week period, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Wednesday.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office said Fleetwood had a business card identifying him as "Dr. Clifford G. Fleetwood, PhD., E. JD Attorney At Law," and administered a Web site claiming he was a legal scholar listed in "Who's Who In American Law," and "Who's Who in the World."

Deputies said Brown became suspicious after he spotted Fleetwood appearing to be drunk at a bus stop.

Fleetwood was arrested Monday and charged with grand theft and unlicensed practice of law.
