A dog in Texas was rescued after residents said it spent several days with a plastic jar stuck on its head.
"Pickle is going to stay at the shelter for a bit since he has a few medical issues and is extremely scared right now," the shelter said.
Resident Staci Szybowicz, who first saw the 1-year-old Pitbull Terrier mix on April 11, helped track down Pickles by sharing a post on social networking website NextDoor.
She tried to chase down and rescue the dog herself, but ultimately he was too quick so she turned to the community for help.
"He was very fast and didn't want anyone to get near him," she said.
The NextDoor post eventually gained some traction and neighbors called Animal Control Officer Randall Mize when they saw the dog taking a rest in the neighborhood.
"When they called us they said the dog was laying down at this point," Mize told CBS Dallas.
Mize said he, another officer and Szybowicz managed to get a hold of Pickle and pry the jar loose.
"Eventually, we got it," he said. "And then the fresh oxygen almost caused the dog to pass out. It was pretty intense."
The dog was given his nickname because it was reported his head was stuck in a pickle jar, but Mize discovered that may have been a misnomer.
"It's actually one of those cheese ball containers," he said.
Animal control workers speculated the container was on Pickle's head for three days and the shelter is treating him for dehydration before placing him up for adoption.
