Pair charged with lingerie scam

UPI News Service, 01/17/2006

An alert clerk at a Victoria's Secret store in a New York City suburb helped trap two suspected con artists who allegedly ran an underwear scam for months.

Michael Adams made the clerk at the Oceanside store suspicious as he was trying to return almost $300 worth of dainty under things because he refused to fill out a form with his name and address, the New York Post reported.

"He slipped up because he refused to fill out the form," said Lt. John May of Nassau County said.

May said Adams and his alleged sidekick, Tequawn Dawn, 16, bought stolen items and then matched them at stores, obtaining both a regular receipt and a gift receipt. The pair allegedly used the receipts to return both items for cash.

Police say stolen items recovered after the arrests include pink silk pajamas and a sexy "Santa sack" in red with a matching hat.
