Pa. restaurant bans kids under 6

UPI News Service, 07/13/2011

A Pennsylvania restaurant owner said repeated problems with loud youngsters has led to a new policy banning children under the age of 6.

Mike Vuick, owner of McDain's Restaurant in Monroeville, said the restaurant has never offered a kids' menu, and will no longer allow children under the age of 6 beginning July 16, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday.

"We feel that McDain's is not a place for young children. Their volume can't be controlled and many, many times they have disturbed other customers," the restaurant said in an e-mail to customers.

Vuick said the restaurant, which includes a bar and is connected to a driving range, has always been oriented toward adults.

"This is not a kid-oriented place," Vuick said. "There are many child-friendly restaurants that are a lot cheaper to go to."

Vic Walczak, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, said the move does not violate the state's anti-discrimination laws, the newspaper reported.
