David Letterman remained at the No. 2 spot, although he now shares that spot with fellow late night comedian and talk-show host, Jon Stewart. Stewart moved up from his No. 6 ranking from last year.

Fourth and fifth places were held by Ray Romano and Jay Leno, followed by Bill Cosby, who had fallen out of the top 10 in 2001.

Ellen Degeneres and Bill O' Reilly followed. Dr. Phil McGraw and Regis Philbin tied for the No. 9 spot.

The Harris Poll was conducted online within the United States among a nationwide cross section of 1,036 adults aged 18 and over. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
