O.J. Simpson to be held without bail until Las Vegas court appearance

UPI News Service, 09/17/2007

Las Vegas police say former NFL star and actor O.J. Simpson will be held without bail until a Thursday court appearance on robbery, weapons and other charges.

Simpson, 60, was arrested at a Las Vegas hotel Sunday and charged with two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count each of armed burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Capt. James Dillon told a news conference.

A second man, Walter Alexander, faces similar charges for an incident last Thursday in which two sports memorabilia dealers were allegedly robbed at gunpoint in their hotel room.

Simpson told CNN by telephone there had been no robbery and denied the charges against him.

The Heisman Trophy winner and former Buffalo Bills running back was acquitted of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1995. Two years later, a jury found him liable for their deaths in a civil suit and ordered him to pay restitution to the two victims' families.
