N.Y. summons dead woman for jury duty

UPI News Service, 04/14/2013

A New York woman who has been dead for nearly a decade keeps getting jury duty summons, her former caretaker said.

The Board of Elections still sends jury notices to Elizabeth H. Mendoza -- who would be 104 years old if she were still alive -- the New York Post reported Sunday.

"I write a message on the envelope: 'Get it together. You should know that she's not around. Take her off the registry,'" one of Mendoza's former caretakers, Adrian Guerra Sr., said. "But it keeps coming. They won't stop."

The latest notice was a juror questionnaire mailed April 1, the post reported.

In most cases the Department of Health notifies city agencies of deaths, but Board of Elections spokeswoman Valerie Vazquez said the data were "not the most current and up to date."
