Security cameras on Kidman's Darling Point property caught a man planting the listening device shortly after Kidman returned home Sunday, the Daily Telegraph reported. Kidman is in preparation for filming the movie "Eucalyptus" based on the Australian novel.
Detective Inspector Grant Taylor told Australian Broadcasting Corp. Tuesday police were working closely with Kidman.
"She's genuinely concerned and is interested in getting to the bottom of why this was placed there and to see whether she was in fact a target of this device," Taylor said.
Whoever planted the device could face up to five years in prison if caught and convicted, police said.
