More than 250 New Yorkers gathered in Times Square to destroy bad memories of 2011 during the fifth annual Good Riddance Day.

The event, sponsored by Cintas, the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, drew dozens of people seeking to smash objects and shred papers reminding them of the unpleasant parts of 2011, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
Lori Raimondo, vice president of marketing for the Times Square Alliance, said the paper from a pair of truck-sized shredders supplied for the event will be recycled.
"It'll get recycled into paper cups, paper towels, and toilet paper, which I think is appropriate for a lot of these good riddances," Raimondo said.
