Event co-producers Jeff Straus, president of Countdown Entertainment, and Tim Tompkins, president of the Times Square Alliance, will preside over Thursday afternoon's raising and relighting of the ball, which was used to ring in 2013 this week.
Powered by 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs and covered with 2,668 Waterford crystals, it weighs 11,875 pounds.
The ball traditionally is only on display for the new year holiday.
